Is number 1 a Shoveler. If so why is its plumage different to all the pictures ive seen? is it due to time of year?
Number 2 is it a Chiffchaff or Willow Warbler? This always gets me. Would i be right in saying Chiffchaffs legs are really dark and and Willow warblers light?
and willow warblers tend to be slightly greener (but not always).
Is there a definitive way of identifying these 2 birds?
Thanks

Yes, drake Northern Shoveler coming out of eclipse.
2 Chiffchaff- primary projection is best feature if not heard. Chiffchaff normally has blackish legs, though this feature is 100% diagnostic, but a good pointer.

Yes I agree with the above also a nice capture of this drake shoveler has he looks above him allowing a unusual view of their specialised bills.
