November Moths (1 Viewer)

Just two moths under the halogen light last night high on the wall, the lower one was a Red-green Carpet and assumed the higher one was as well.
Hummed and Hah’d about whether to run the UV trap or not, which I did eventually thankfully.
As this am the “higher” one had transferred to the pot….drum roll for the 2nd lifer this week!
Oak Rustic.😮

After not bothering in October I decided that last night was just about worthwhile and put mty trap on. Just 7/4 was the result - a Feathered Thorn, two Blair's Shoulder-knots, a Red-green Carpet and three LBAMs.

My mate Tony in Quorn did much better (as always) with 42/14 including a Palpita vitrealis, two Black Rustics, a Merveille de Jour, three Feathered Thorns and the second Marbled Fern for the county, a fortnight after the first was caught at Charnwood Lodge.

An unexpected tick last night - Orange Sallow. Not even on my radar really, with very few local records, no Lime nearby that I can think of and late to boot!

Feathered Thorn NFY, with singles of November agg & Silver Y the balance.

Had a 99% Convolvulus Hawk-moth yesterday early morning but couldn't get a photo and couldn't spend any more time whacking my neighbours bushes trying to get it out again or I'd have been late for work (and possibly they'd have called the police :ROFLMAO: )

Quick update:

1/11 Cypress Carpet, Rusty Dot Pearl, Merveille du Jour, Red-green Carpet, November Moth, Turnip.

4/11 November Moth, Rusty Dot Pearl, Grey Pine Carpet

6/11 (Morning) Grey Pine Carpet, LBAM. (Evening) Mottled Umber flew in while we were helping next door with a new mattress and landed on the lounge ceiling - garden tick!

It's still mild enough most nights to be worth putting the trap out. After my first Acleris hyemana a couple of weeks back I had another last night. As the common name, Heath Tortrix, suggests it is most associated with heaths and moors, not a garden on the outskirts of Leeds. Also five Red-green Carpets, three each of Tachystola acroxantha and December Moth and singles of Blastobasis adustella, Light Brown Apple Moth and Blair's Shoulder-knot.

Another day flying moth (unless it’s a butterfly!) here in the Alps at midday, does it look familiar to you moth-ers?
Merci!

Ah, thanks SV, funnily enough I passed the photo through iNaturalist which suggests a number of possibilities (wild rose, Rock Bunting(eh?) and just one butterfly, Brown Hairstreak! I’ll check to see if anyone else is still seeing them despite the date.
