Hello all,

Just a quick note to say "hi." I'm originally from the USA and currently living in the Netherlands. A lifetime animal and wildlife enthusiast, I started taking a particular interest in birds while living on the Western coast of Ireland. Since then, I've continued watching birds mostly in my neighborhood or on local hikes, and I’ve enjoyed reading books about bird behavior and identification. I've known about this forum for a while but was a bit shy given I'm so new to birding. Noah Strycker's book (Birding Without Borders) inspired me to finally take the leap and join. I'm looking forward to connecting with others and deepening my understanding and appreciation of our feathered friends!

Hi Giddy Goldfinch and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Welcome! Some great birding in the Netherlands, I worked there for a while and really liked it. 🙂👍
Amazing! Would you have any tips of where to go? I’ve been to Texel a few times and have the Veluwe and Zeeland on my list, and love exploring the dunes and forest outside of where I live (in Leiden).

Yes Texel is great, and I was told that Vlieland, Terschelling and Schiermonikoog are good too.
Apart from that I was mainly in the east round Hengelo, beautiful unspoilt countryside which was great for Black Woodpecker.
Other than that, I was told the Lauwersmeer is great, also Oostvaardersplassen and Maasvlakte, though I didn't visit them myself. 🙂👍🐦
