It was in the saltpans between Tavira and Santa Luzia last Wednesday and again in exactly the same place yesterday when I called in on the way to the airport.The whole area seemed to be alive with bluethroats. We had three next to the track betwen the saltapans opposite the new shopping centre in Tavira within 10 minutes of our arrival on the first day, four or five along the boardwalk at Salgados and singles in several other places, often right next to the car.Great bustards and black-bellied sandgouse at Castro Verde.Several black-shouldered kites around, a few Caspian terns and a couple of slender-billed gulls. Late single booted eagle and short-toed eagle at and on the way to Cap St Vincent (failed to see 11 little bustards there that were seen by someone I was speaking to elsewhere later on Thursday).The trip across the border to El Rocio and the marshes was a disappointment because there's been no rain to speak of and the marshes are still bone dry. I had been hoping to pick up ferruginous duck as the trip's lifer, but it didn't happen because of the lack of water and the nearest I got to a new bird was your half-reef-heron.Great weather though and I really enjoyed the trip.</blockquote>
