I used to climb trees a lot when I was young. Falling on my back from 6 metres up was a scary experience: I couldn't breathe for a while – it did put me off doing it!

When I was a kid and 'health and safety' regulation were still in the womb, we regularly used to climb to height for things like Mistle Thrush eggs. One scary event was climbing right up in to the roof of a disused factory for a Jackdaws nest, probably about 30m and involving a balancing act to cross a 4 inch girder.

Oh, those were the days, summers were long and the now constant, companions, arthritis and the spectre of my own mortality, were yet to introduce themselves to me.
