Orthotomus derbianus nilesi Parkes, 1988 OD here

Etymology: This subspecies is named for Dr. M.Niles of the DMNH, who has been consistently and generously helpful to my research on Philippine birds.

The Eponym Dictionary of Birds claims:

Dr David M. Niles was head of the Ornithology Department, Delaware Museum of Natural History, Greenville, USA, when he wrote, jointly with Parkes, 'Notes on Philippine birds' (1988). He was a graduate student at the Museum of Southwestern Biology, New Mexico (1960s). The University of Kansas awarded his doctorate (1972).

The old key:

Dr David M. Niles (fl. 1988) US ornithologist (subsp. Orthotomus derbianus).

His Ph: D thesis is...

Adaptive Variation in Body Size and Skeletal Proportions of Horned of horned larks of the southwestern United States

...which leads to David Matheson Niles (b. 1940)
