Yes - they are back OK and 1st egg was Wednesday. But RSPB staffing not there yet to do web work. Hopefully somebody will arrive soon though, so keep checking.
Ospreys of course are offsite there, so you can't see actual nest or birds at the visitor centre. But excellent widescreen video link to the nest already up and running, and also screening 2007 highlights with 3 chicks.

Thanks for that, Trossachs. I will keep an eye on the Aberfoyle site to see when they start updating it.

11.57 a.m. The pair has just changed over on egg-protection duties.
The three eggs are clearly visible. I love the way in which she snuggles down over the eggs - so gently!

There has been a lot of protective behaviour and moving around on and off eggs - not the norm at all. Thought I heard a third bird but didn't see it on the nest - sorry. Definitely a threat of some sort when I look at the video clips I took.

Hi Everybody,

It is 2.35 pm and E J is making a real racket as if there is an intruder about, it is not the usual "food begging" calls.

I don't think it will be Henry, I am sure she would recognise him, more likely a late arrival looking for a good nesting site near a fish farm.

Well it got her what looked like a trout anyway after about 5 minutes! Hopefully that's all the excitement for the day over - we don't want intruders at this stage.

Hi,

I got that wrong it is now 2.43 pm and Orange has just arrived with a very large headless fish which E J has taken away to eat and he is now incubating the eggs.

Oh Anne. I never thought I would see you giving up on Henry. I saw that bird this morning and I think it could have been Henry.

There are many possibilities that could have alarmed the pair.It could have been another Osprey, perhaps a couple of the local Ravens,or Buzzards.Even a tree climbing Pine Marten, could have set them off.Thankfully, peace is now restored.

It was definitely another osprey. I saw all three on the nest at the same time.

Just had another look at the video captures from Friday morning from 11 to12.30. Had watched them after I heard the third osprey calling but looked closer frame by frame tonight. Did I read somewhere that Henry had a metal leg ring? If so might have caught it, so if the 'Henry experts' could have a look at this that would be good. This nest landing was momentary so well spotted Tiger if you saw this one.
I'll try to post a sequence of 5 frames:
- Starting with both birds alert about 11am.
- Then a shot of two birds on the nest at 11.48.
- Two legs appeared top left so then 3 ospreys visible on the nest - but the new bird very close to the camera so no clear full head shot.
- A few frames later there appeared to be a metal ring on this new bird's right leg. When it flew off only one bird left on the nest, which was what confused me before.
- a final shot of EJ/OVS still guarding the nest at 12.22

Interested to hear what you think - thanks.

Here are some shots of Henry. See http://www.osprey2005.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/LochGarten2004.pdf

I think that that attacking osprey was probably Henry.

Diary update there now - 2 ospreys were attacking - they are saying it was an unidentified female that landed on the nest though. But pleased that I caught all this as haven't been at the desk much this week. Wouldn't it be great if there was a 2nd cam they could move about to see all the off-nest action.

Intruder is back again this morning...... Difficult to sex it because the action happened so quickly. Yesterday's bird which landed on the nest was definitely a female. As it flew off overhead the brown bib on the chest was clearly visible.
