Hi Everybody,

The blog has been updated. Another Osprey landed on the nest just after 6 this evening and E J gave a contact call. The bird did not stay long enough to see if there were any rings but it may have been a young one returning.

It was not Henry, as the team wrote he would have stayed.

Personally I do not think Henry will be back. Many members will recember he came back 2 years ago late, covered in oil and in very poor health, last year he looked better but still not the old Henry and I think the oil poisoned him and the long migrations took their toll, Henry is no more although I would be ecstatic to be proved wrong.

I was watching (with sound on) when I heard EJ give her calls. It was certainly not a distress call and I honestly thought that she was waiting on her part of a fish supper from OVS.

Anne it was 2005 that he came back on 25 April. In 2006 he arrived back on April 10 and raised three chicks even though they probably were fathered by OVS.

Hi,

Thanks for the time of the visitor, the blog entry was written about 6 and I thought I hadn't seen or heard another bird then although EJ has been calling more than she sometimes does and seemed very alert while I was watching, sorry don't know how else to put it.

I have just spotted EJ with her wings sticking out, is this how the birds stay cool in hot weather.

Hi Christine,

Just seen your post and I think it is the way birds keep cool, when they have chicks they will stand like that when raining or it is hot to shade the chicks. The first time I saw a bird standing wings outstretched I thought it was protecting its meal, it looked quite menacing then a little head appeared and I realised what she was doing, the wings are impressive up close.

Hi Folks,

Just to let you know the blog was updated on Friday, all is quiet apart from EJ chasing a Buzzard now and then, that may explain (to me) why I often see her looking around as if watching something.

Gosh who has brought all that new nesting material?
There are still one or two Ospreys coming through East Anglia. Could Henry still turn up?

I very much doubt it. Any ospreys coming now are likely to be 2 year old on their first return migration.

Quick look for first time today - EJ never seems to sleep!
2 new blogs updates - one a long Q&A and history, the other explaining intruders Friday and Saturday.

Blog has been updated.... still intruding birds about. I am hoping the chicks hatch on time (25/26 May so the blog says) as i am up there on Bank Holiday Monday. If I get any pictures of the chicks I'll post them on here.

Hi Folks,

Can someone please teach Orange and Homer how to fish and show them they should be feeding their families. As we know with humans modern day parenting skills leave a lot to be desired.

I don't believe it! just looked and there was Orange sitting on the eggs with EJ kicking him, not a fish in sight, I think she has now gone for her own. At least they have a fish farm on the door step must be easier.

Hi,

Cosworthy Lady (also an Ann) has named the pair of Ospreys at Loch Lowes Homer and Marge and if you read our posts today, you will see she already has names for the chicks, Bart is the first to hatch and has been feeding really well when Homer brought the fish.

E J just seems to be staring at the view when I look, don't know how we will manage when we have two families to watch growing up.

Thanks Ann - good names! I'd just googled and found a Homer in the USA. Sorry hadn't the other thread marked - but have the LoL webcam and its great sound on quite often, and was lucky enough to visit with Delia at and April.
I am hoping the sound will come back up for Loch Garten as its good for telling us when there's some action, but I guess maybe not if chicks are about to hatch as they won't want to disturb anything.

Hi,

You are right there is a problem with the sound from Garten, the team hope to have it fixed one day.

The American Osprey Homer is another of a group I follow, no cameras, only migration maps and some of the birds were included in the BBC Steve Leonard film Migration, as of course, it is easier to track Ospreys from the States down to Cuba and Dominica where they winter than our European ones, which we all know how difficult and unpredictable they are after following Logie's journeys with all the meanderings she took. Just like a woman shopping for one thing but hmm while on the way I will just have a look at the shop across the way. I am sure all girls and even some lone men's trips get lengthened when "honest it was only a quick shop". We all find distractions along the way.
