Hi Ben,

I had to force myself not to look at EJ this morning at all until I had done the TV diary which probably won't interest many members, only a lot of something called "Springwatch" on CBeebies. :-O

Hi Folks,

Will somebody please tell me it is not the chick sitting on the edge of the nest opposite EJ. I have been watching it moving in the wind for at least 5 minutes. Sorry picture did not copy.

Thanks Christine,

That is a relief although I hope she isn't gone long as I bet it is a bit cold in that nest if the wind is as bad as here.

I am sure I was looking at a clump of feathers but they were so realistic they looked like a body and EJ was just staying put and staring in that direction. I suddenly thought if a chick did wander round the "double bed" how would an adult get it back into the safety of the nest their talons are so cumbersome even when eating a fish.

Having visited Loch Garten last month and seen the pride and care that the team take in "their" birds, I just want to send congratulations on the first chick and hopes for several more successes this season and in the future.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your post. I am glad you enjoyed your visit to Loch Garten and the rest of your stay here it was a long way to come! I haven't even been up the "road" to see them and it must be only a couple of hundred miles from where I live.

I will pass on your thanks to the team and if you want their website let me know, although it is in this thread somewhere for the web cam.

Thanks again.

Hi Folks,

It is 8.30 and Orange has just made a delivery too, talk about sychnronised feeding. Is he in competition with Homer? I hope so EJ might get more feeds.

2nd chick hatched at 12.15pm according to the web blog update. I must have just missed it - just like the first! Just watching for my first glimpse.

Hi Folks,

I have been out for the day and missed the hatching and as yet haven't seen the second chick. At least Orange has made 2 deliveries of fish today let's hope he keeps it up. Since the first one arrived I have been trying to work out how to deliver fresh fish to EJ if necessary, soon she will have 3 chicks to feed Help :eek!:

Just happened to catch a sight of a very late feed - both chicks seem to be alert and getting fish OK. So maybe OVS is shaping up well with the deliveries. Once there's 3 it might be a round the clock task though!

Beware. Get ready for fighting in the nest between the chicks particularly if food is not as plentiful as it might be.

Weather conditions in north Scotland have been ideal for fishing adult Ospreys, with plenty fish near the surface of the Lochs and Rivers.

Anyone else having problems getting into the video - too many people trying perhaps with Springwatch publicity on the TV?

I've had the same problem since I switched on this morning - I think there must be something wrong with the camera as there's a comment on the Loch Garten blog from someone saying they can't get a picture either.

I've been looking at the still webcam picture instead and it is obviously pouring with rain there, but maybe not as heavily as it was half an hour ago, because the picture isn't covered in rain drops any more.

When I first looked, there looked like an egg sitting just in front of EJ, but I couldn't see whether it was a whole egg or a bit of an empty shell. Because of the rain she is keeping the chicks covered, so it's difficult to see.

Hope the live camera is back soon - I hope we don't miss the 3rd hatching because of this. That would be a shame.

Thanks all - just kept clicking on the link every now and again when I remembered and eventually got through once, so it looks as if it might actually be working but the server is very overloaded. The Chichester peregrines video had seemed to be down too, so wondered if it was my PC, but they are coming through just fine now (aren't they growing fast!). Hope it's not going to be like this from now on - but the RSPB might not be prepared for a huge number of osprey-watchers.

I only managed to get through to the Goshawk nest this morning, so I was happy to watch the adult feeding the chicks. Again, I wondered whether it was my pc until I saw that others were having the same problems. I've now manged to get the Loch Garten video stream.
