OT sort of: What kind of wild animal poop is this at my feeder? (1 Viewer)

Hi all! :)
I hope it's ok to post this here...
I sure hope someone can solve this mystery for me...
I've seen this poop here before and I always thought it was a possum because I used to more freely feed BOSS and had a possum or two who came at night to enjoy it and I caught them in the act a few times. There would always be lots of this poop the next day.
I started feeding more sparingly and only in hanging feeders and that stopped happening until recently.

I have a small hanging feeder on my covered porch and just below it on my deck is a tray feeder and sometimes some seeds fall into it from the feeder above it. I've been noticed the same kind of poop again but it's a little smaller this time. Exact same make up though.
Very dry and fibrous. Looks like it mostly eats grasses and seeds... ?

I am in Eastern TN and this animal is definitely nocturnal as the poop is always appears overnight. And obviously this animal likes BOSS. ;)

Here are two pictures of the poop:

Thanks a lot! :)

Although it is easy to make a mistake visually in identifying scat, I feel that it is from a squirrel. Given the size and shape plus it being common to find around birdfeeders is the reason I believe this even though they're not considered nocturnal.

Thank you so much for your reply! :) I really appreciate it as I was wondering if anyone was going to take a guess! ;)

But no, it's not squirrel poop. I have tons of squirrels here and have seen plenty of squirrel poop and this is not it.
Thanks a lot though! :)

I have the same poop in my feeder! Did you ever find out what kind of animal it's from?

I have the same feces in my open platform bird feeder. It started last week and is being caused by some nocturnal creature.
Not squirrel, unlikely to be owl to be eating sun flower seeds and bird seed mix. Doesn’t look like rat. Totally at a loss!?

Did this ever get resolved? I have the exact same poop in my tray birdfeeder. It only gets there at night. I am mystified. I also thought it was possum poop but apparently it is not

Unless it is an owl or something using it as a perch to spy on and catch mice or voles feeding below the feeder.

They look too small though?

(I'm guessing if this was asked in the mammal subforum there may be a higher chance of an answer)

I have the same in mine! Definitely nocturnal. I’m so curious for an answer.

We also found a skunk munching on the discarded seeds below. Time to clean up and find a solution to that as well.

Well I also have poop in my tray feeder that looks like that - I thought it was squirrels but now I'm not sure as the squirrel scat pictures are not like that. There are multiple "pellets" left in the tray and it's definitely nocturnal I believe. My dogs went crazy last night at the tray feeder.Any new thoughts?

I have the same poop in my open tray bird feeder. It is there in the morning, so the culprit must be a nocturnal creature. Help somebody please. It is puzzling

It looks like a Norway rat that has feasted on your bird seed

These look like regurgitated pellets. No telling what is leaving them. Cover your feeder at night and no further seed will be spoiled. Whatever it is is nocturnal. Not sure that a rat would regurgitate seed husks?
