I have prepared a spreadsheet that may be useful to those researching for a birding trip to Malaysia. This 7MB spreadsheet consolidates the observations from over 4,100 checklists for 21 Malaysian hotspots.

Download link:

The spreadsheet will be displayed in your browser. Click on the Download button on the top right to download to your device/computer.

The 21 eBird Malaysian hotspots are:
Bukit Fraser
Bukit Fraser - The Gap
Taman Negara - Kuala Tahan
Taman Negara - Swamp Loop & Tahan Hide
Taman Negara - Mutiara Resort
Taman Negara - Merapoh
Bukit Tinggi - Japanese Garden
Gunung Panti
Sungai Congkak Recreational Forest
Taman Botani Shah Alam
Kuala Selangor Nature Park
Sepilok Rainforest Discovery Center,
Danum Valley Field Centre
Danum Valley Borneo Rainforest Lodge
Sungai Sedim Recreational Forest
Air Hitam Dalam Forest Reserve
Bukit Larut
Pedu Lake
Kinabalu Park
Poring Hot Springs
Kinabatangan River - Sukau

Besides this master spreadsheet you can also download the spreadsheets and PDFs of the checklist data for the individual hotspots.

A Python program was used to scrape the data from eBird and Excel VBA used to automate the final formatting for the spreadsheets.
In a future version of the spreadsheet there will be a column to indicate the “Heard only” ticks.
I plan to update this about once a week with the latest data.
Let me know if you find any errors or have any suggestions.

The Malaysian eBird hotspot Excel files have been updated with the latest observations (2 Aug 24). A new column has been added to indicate heard/heard only species.

In the workbook, eBirdMalaysia.xlsx, each hotspot has its own sheet, allowing for easy navigation between the hotspot data. This master Excel file, which combines all the hotspot location checklists, is best viewed on a desktop, laptop, iPad, or tablet. For phone users, it's recommended to download the individual spot checklists as separate Excel or PDF files.

Purpose of this file: It consolidates all Malaysian data into one file for offline viewing, making search and analysis more convenient with the use of Excel functions. You can speed scroll through the data from over 4,100 checklists on your own computer or tablet/iPa.
