Yes, I heard the voices, someone mentioned Dennis I think - not that thats anything to do with it - just me being stupid - but it has gone quiet again. All's not lost than Ann, even if its ok, they may hang onto it for a couple of hours, even if only to re-hydrate it

Wonder if they have considered putting a catch net under that nest box - seeing as this is about the third time its happened. You know, a bit like they did on Spring watch when there was a nest above all that machinery.

You reminded me before when you were upset Ann of thoughts I had the other night when watching that youngest Osprey, when the eldest just wouldn't give up that fish. I have gone through so many emotions this summer, what with Lady, and then the little chick being left out, and then wanting to give 'gutsie' a slap for being greedie. I will have to consider whether watching this wild life in details is for me - I get very upset with many aspects of it. It goes on all the time in the wild, and things work very well because of the laws of nature, but whether I could do it again, that I dont know. Trouble is, I love them all too much, and always want happy endings.

i used to be like you with the ospreys but not now. The chicks will both leave for africa now and fingers crossed they survive. Its hard to see one eat and the other not but you have to remember they only eat like that to survive and only eat what they need. They get defensive but so do cats and dogs etc. This years chicks are doing fine and are very healthy. Try not to worry about them :-D

Two owlets in the nest. So far no further announcement on the barncam diary about the 3rd. From what you heard, Ann, it sounds like the poor thing would be very lucky to survive, if it has broken something and was lying still on the floor of the nest. This sounds dire. Shelagh, I think a net might give a fallen chick a better chance than the floor. I should think the chick would panic to be caught in a net, and could be in there struggling and stressed for hours (on the other hand, it might just doze off, I don't know!) Got to leave for work, will check in later.

not sure if it would work with an owl chick. I think maybe a rethink to the size of the tray would be better.

When I began watching the BOT owlets this morning at 4:55AM Mountain Time, I saw one owlet hanging upside down as though one claw was caught on the entryway. It was not moving. I immediately emailed BOT. When I returned to observe, the owlet was now lying motionless about midway from the entrance and the other two were on opposite sides of the nest, While I watched, the one in the middle struggled to move closer to a sibling. It was apparent to me that it was injured. It moved again and it broke my heart to see it in such distress. Then the camera went blank -- as did the exterior camera.

It was about 5:15 Mt time. I checked my email and found a response from "Pete, BOT" who said "It is the being dealt with as we speak". I've heard nothing more.

When the cameras were turned back on, there were only 2 owlets in the box. That's all I know at this time.

I know, I understand Ann. What a fretful time you must be having, having heard everything. How long has it been now since they removed the owlet from the box? I wonder what's going on? Here's a long-distance (((hug))).

its been gone four and a half hours. It was only in the box about fifteen minutes before the farmer and another man went back in to get it.

wish they would update the diary. Surely they've left the office for today so we won't know til tomorrow and by then its maybe too late to return the chick if its still alive.
