I went back out to Oxbow today with my binocs to see if the trumpeter was out there, and by golly it sure was! I took a field guide, google, and iBirdPro and checked all of them and I'm pretty gosh darn sure it was a trumpeter! I also spied a common merganser and by the time I was back to the car and a bit too cold, I realized that there might have been others out there that just looked like female mallards. #Ilovebirdies (my husband was on camera duty but when I got home it turns out the only pictures he took were of me looking at birds-he says a spotting of a Kate is better than an ole' wet bird butt.)
