1343. Nile Valley Sunbird
1344. Crowned Sandgrouse
1345. Steppe Eagle
1346. Tristram's Starling

Very jealous of the Serin Paul, another we dipped! Presumably that was at the Tawi Attair sinkhole?

The trip list rose to 208 today but the year ticks were more lumited:-

1373 - Blyth's Pipit
1374 - Arabian Scops Owl
1375 - Rufous Bushchat
1376 - Pheasant-tailed Jacana
1377 - Desert Owl

A few pics - Desert Owl, Arabian Wheatear, Brown Booby, Steppe Gull, Greater Crested & Sandwich Terns, Brown Noddy, Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Long-billed Pipit, Sykes's Wagtail, Shining Sunbirds (male & female), Grey-headed Kingfisher, Bruce's Green Pigeon, Arabian Eagle Owl, Booted Eagle, Rufous Bushchat, Steppe Grey Shrike, Daurian Shrike, Blackstart & Garganey.

I did see Arabian Scops Owl albeit very very poorly today. Good vocalisations though. Brown Noddy & Desert Owl were photo ticks. Hopefully after tomorrow's Pelagic, my remaining lifer & photo targets will be reduced... 🤞

They hang around at the cafe near a dripping tap/hose:-

Did you get the Grosbeak? One of my key remaining targets...

All the best

Paul
Yes we visited the car park area twice but it wasn't to be.

No sadly the Grosbeak was the third of our 'big dippers' after the Owl & Serin. I wish you better fortune and hope you have a good pelagic - with Hatem presumably? He really knows his stuff and has eyes like an eagle's!

Chris

Three year list additions today:-

1378 - Jouanin's Petrel
1379 - Flesh-footed Shearwater
1380 - Spotted Thicknee

Some pics from today - Arabian Scops Owl, African Silverbill, Eurasian Sparrowhawk, Cinnamon-breasted Bunting, Short-toed Eagle, Arabian Warbler, Abdim's Stork, Barbary Falcon, Bridled Tern, Persian Shearwater (two pics), Red-necked Phalarope, Flesh-footed Shearwater (three pics), Wilson's Storm-petrel, Jouanin's Petrel (two pics), Common Tern & Masked Booby.

We appear to have thrown in the towel on Arabian Grosbeak. If I connect with Grey Francolin on either our return to Muscat or in Bahrain, the Grosbeak will be my only realistic dip. In addition, I had hoped to get pics of Swinhoe's Storm Petrel and Lichtenstein's Sandgrouse but they have also got away.

I have had 23 lifers and have photographed maybe six additional species that I had not photographed before. Still one day or so in Oman and a day in Bahrain to improve that.

All the best

Paul

Four additions in Bahrain today:-

1388. Red-vented Bulbul
1389. Great Reed Warbler
1390. Hypocolius
1391. Indian Pied Starling

A few pics - Tawny Pipit, Red-vented Bulbul, Indian Silverbill, Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Helmeted Guineafowl, Indian Pied Starling & Hypocolius (seven pics).

Outrageously, eBird treats the Cockatoo & Helmeted Guineafowl as escaped exotics... 😀

All the best

With eBird up to date including taxonomic changes, an addition on Monday:-

1393. Scarlet Tanager West Yorkshire, England 11th November 2024

Not sure what birding that I am going to fit in over the next two weeks but at the beginning of December I am due to be off to Sri Lanka for a slightly under two week birdtour. I was last there in 1985/86 on a schoolboy cricket tour. I recently found and added my list of 97 bird species from that tour to my eBird but no photos added from that trip really. Some of those pics around here to be found somewhere. I will have maybe 60+ lifers to target as well as 100+ photo ticks to try and secure. Preparation for that trip underway including that analysis. If I am lucky, I can get back to finishing some of my 2023 photo yearlist for a few days first!

All the best

Paul
