I have checked out my sample of 8x32 Pentax ED and an 8x32 Meopta Meostar that I was checking out. I spent a few days really comparing the 2. I know a lot of people really like the Meopta 8x32 and even though I thought that it was a pretty nice piece of glass, I just liked the ED better. Since they are close, it just comes back to personal preferences. To me the Pentax ED was definitely brighter and I thought a little sharper. This was especially apparent at low light levels. Also the focus was better on the ED; and I could get a more precise level of finer detail at longer ranges with the ED. One of the tests that I use is I can look across my valley about 1- 1.5 miles from my deck at a south facing hillside during all sorts of different lighting conditions. I look under the fir trees in the shadows especially in low light and see what kind of detail I can pick up. As a hunter along with enjoying birds, I look for detail in the shadows at sometimes long distances and some binoculars are better as far as resolution is concerned and some have better brightness to help pick details out. To me the Pentax just did better at that; - now was it much better, well, I do not know if it was by a lot, but the difference was there for me in favor of the ED. Also the Pentax just seemed better built, it just seems like a little tank. The Meopta 8x32 has a very nice feel in the hand, I must say. Also the weight is lighter. Like always it all comes down to the old different strokes....
