Message: <blockquote data-quote="mayoayo" data-source="post: 1932037" data-attributes="member: 16781"><p>The Pentax ED is a big step forward of a line of binoculars that are very well made,(the SP series)and that have very good optics..The addition of ED glass and the fantastic coatings(spectacular really)in the ED series ,made  a binocular that really makes a difference when comparing both models,specially in the CA supression that ED glass offers,and some noticeable resolution.although contrast ,color and glare control are also improved...the price difference is worth to pay,since the ED series are really up there with opticsl excellence..I have owned two pairs of the ED series though,both in 8x32 configuration and it was a serious difference in the focus infinity override,beetwen the two models,and Pentax USA wasnt able to understand the question when i asked what was the infinity override of the model in the specification chart..a little frustating for a binocular that costs 700 dollars  +/_..at the modern prices of alpha glass this price seems moderate,but still a lot of money ,and although worht it as a life time investment ina quality instrument,It should be backed by an efficient customer support and the lowest tolerances in sample variation(call it Quality control)...I would not compare the ED series in that regards with the Zeiss FL 8x32 that seems for me to be another step forward in some regards,although i agree that color and contrast (and glare control )are better or as good in the Pentax ED series..For some reason the Zeiss FL feels a better made binocular,with mechanical quality truly  exceptional ,great ergonomics and cutting edge use of materials(high tech feeling truly),besides the fact that the FL 8x32 offers to my eye a most satisfactory image in the form of Extreme resolution in the center ,that ,personally is the quality I admire more in optics.....</p></blockquote><p></p>
