Why cannot predators co exist on grouse moors (or Pheasant shoots as well?) There is plenty of evidence that this is possible. Wildlife has survived over millions of years simply BY co-existing. Raptors do not take ALL the game birds, or they would starve to death next year. They take a %. The issue is that these shooting estates cannot bear to see even one grouse killed as they want to shoot it themselves. Wildfowlers take Geese, Ducks etc., but I don't see them advocating shooting all Peregrines to maximise their own chances. Rough shooters do the same. The sole motivation to shoot or otherwise illegally destroy Raptors on Grouse Moors is pure short sighted selfish greed and nothing else. IF Grouse shooting cannot function within the law then like any other criminal activity is should be banned. John. <I could perhaps be persuaded that for a sufficient fee (and with the proper permits ) it would be OK for American dentists to shoot gamekeepers.> I would go one better. I would permit the gamekeepers (with time on their hands) to switch targets from Raptors to Trophy Hunters.
