Pink-footed Goose? (1 Viewer)

Well-known member
Spotted this evening in a flock of c180 Canada Geese.

Not the best photo's, sorry. Didn't have my camera with me so phone-to-binoculars.

Doesn't look right for a Pinkfoot - the bill a bit too large, and uniformly pale. My best guess would be a juvenile Whitefront, but hard to be sure with pics of this quality!

I agree with Nutcracker that this bird looks good for a 1 cy White-fronted Goose, but hard to be sure due to picture quality.
As you have learnend, when looking for bad pictures, I can help: https://www.flickr.com/gp/[email protected]/f9i750 (NE-Germany, 08.03.2019)
Here you can study the difference between 2 Pink-footed among other Geese (please note the different date to your pictures)

Off topic (I know, I promise not to repeat this): here you have two White-fronted, where the light is reflecting in the eye-lids, resulting in a pitfall of a yellow eye-ring that might suggest Lesser White-fronted to the unwary: https://flic.kr/p/2f1UMEj

When you do, check carefully. I'm sure it's not, but the small billed appearance shown esp in the pic with its head up (centre) looks pretty good for lesser white-front.
One of my reasons for going for Whitefront was the bill being too large for Pinkfoot - whereas Lesser W'f has a smaller bill even than Pinkfoot! Also Lesser is only barely more than duck-size, much smaller than this bird :t:
