Seemed quite large to me on field (approx bulbul sized?)

Looked rather large for one.
I know you said it was bulbul-sized, which is why I put a ? hoping someone else with more experience would contribute. I guess you are thinking of a possible Richard's Pipit with those long claws?
 
Could it be an immature Tawny pipit? The lores seem to be somewhat dark and the stance makes it seem like tawny to me. Definitely not an expert so hopefully someone else will give their opinion.
