plover --Okinawa (1 Viewer)

Last one as of now.
This was taken this September in Okinawa.

The distinct eye-ring leads me to say little ringed plover.
However, the beak shape and length seems to show long-billed plover.

Any opinions are welcome! Thank you!

wouldn't Little Ringed have a pale forehead? I don't know what other options you have in Okinawa, but is hybrid a possibility? Hopefully someone with local knowledge will come along soon.

I would go with Long-billed Plover. Apart from the bill, and allowing for the fact the photos rather burnt out, there appears to be quite an extensive supercillium, the tail tip is noticeably longer than the tip of the primaries, the eyering would be more even in width and, in most cases, the legs would be darker/ duller on LRP.

Apologies for the late reply.
Thank you very much for your comments.

Due to my lack of knowledge, I am unsure whether there is a distinguishable colour difference in the juvenile stage of the two species.
As of the supercilium, winter plume little ringed has one so I hadn't looked too closely at that. But as of shape and region, I am convinced.
I had not known about that tail tip or the leg colour. Learn something everyday :)
Again, thank you both for your replies! I can now be certain that this fellow is a long-billed.
