Probably as good as any $300 roof and for anybody adults included that want to try a 6x they are as good as you are going to get for less than $300. 6x has a lot going for it being sharp as a tack and having great DOF and bright and you don't notice shake nearly as much as an 8x or 10x. Try ordering one from B&H because I think they are a little more careful packing them so they don't get damaged and they have them in black for $80. Amazon is rough with stuff. You get a nice case, nice foam strap, nice rainguards and nice tethered objective covers that are pre-installed. They are light for a kid and waterproof to boot and seem to be pretty rugged.
If you get a good one I think they are a good value. I plan on keeping this one.The only thing I see on it is the focus kind of sticks until you get it moving and then it is good. But that is because it is an external focusing mechanism. The optics really are good at 6x and with a nice wide 8 degree FOV. Sharp and clear also. It would be a great binocular for your nephew. I like mine. Hard to beat for $80. They are a "FUN" binoculars to use because of their simplicity and sharp optics.
