Possible House Martin/Swallow Hybrid ? (1 Viewer)

Hi All,

I live in Cadiz in Southern Spain. Each year we have a pair of swallows nest in our porch. They did so this year and raised young. A few weeks later I thought they had returned for a second clutch as they were repairing the nest. I didn't take a lot of notice of them until a week or so later when the cup shaped swallow's nest began to take on a new shape, that of a typical house martin with a tunnel entrance. (You can see the old swallows nest as it is a slightly different colour} I then took a closer look at the birds. They are very swallow like, very slim with tail streamers but they have a buff coloured rump instead of white as in a house martin. Has much more reddish buff head and underparts, than my photos don't reflect. Thoughts anyone...?

Agree with Red-rumped Swallows.
The first breeding pair in Hong Kong did the same thing, adapting an old Barn Swallow nest by adding more mud to create the tunnel nest.
