Praktica Ambassador 8x42 (1 Viewer)

I can get a really good price on the binoculars above, £180! I was wondering if anybody had any experiences with them. I'm upgrading from a mid range pair of Viking.

Thanks
I have no experience with Praktica binos, but it struck me that they look like a clone of the (discontinued) Vortex Talon 8x42:

You can compare the specs of the two binos to see if they are really similar. As far as I remember the Talons cost much more than 250$.

Funny enough, in the above link the B&L listed the FoV of the Talons as -0.33m/1000m----a rather small FoV, and negative too! (for some curious reason the FoV values listed by B&H are often erroneous). However the FoV is also listed as 8.1* and that corresponds to 142m/1000m, which is exactly the FoV of Praktica.

Hi,

if you decide to try them, please let us know how they worked for you, and maybe post the source in binocular bargains if it was good and more are available at the price.

The plot thickens! I read on a historical thread on this site that the Vortex Talon and the Eagle Ranger are clones and look so similar to the Praktica, with similar specs, that I can only assume that they are all the same.
Agreed. In fact there was no secret that the Rangers and Talons were the same binos, indeed Eagle Optics and Vortex were the same company. Anyway the bottom line is that the Talon was a good binocular in its price range (I owned the 8x32, for which I believe I paid close to 300$ about 5 years ago), and the same might be true for Prakticas if they are really clones of the Talons.
