Even cheap ink jet printers currently can produce great photos, given the appropriate paper. Of course, the price per print will be high, given the exuberant cost of the tiny ink cartridges. If you are just printing a few of your better shots, this Canon might be a good start. http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRINT/canon-mg6320/
If your needs are more serious, the Canon Pro 100 or the pricier Epsom R3000 are good choices.
Both offer the ability to handle larger sheets, up to 13x19 inches.
Do note that the choice of paper is a big factor, both for the price and for the quality of the prints.
Just upgraded to a Canon IX6500 A3 printer which provides good print quality at an affordable price. 5 print Cartridges are a major improvement over my previous printer, an HP Deskjet A3, which only had one combined colour cartridge so when one of the colours was exhausted the whole cartridge needed replacing.
