A ces titres, nous nous empressons de rendre hommage au zèle et à la persévérance de M. le major Henrici, employé au service militaire de la colonie dans l'inde, qui s'est plu à consacrer les loisirs de sa vocation dans les recherches d'histoire naturelle qu'il se trouvait à même de faire pendant un séjour assez lang dans l'île de Sumatra, pays dont les productions du domaine de science naturelles sont encore si peu connues en Europe.

Major Henri Albert von Henrici (c.1783–1838) was an Austrian army officer who entered the service of the Dutch in the East Indies (Indonesia). He made a collection of vertebrates in Borneo.

Lt.-Col. Henri Albert Freiherr von Henrici (1783-1838) Austrian Army, cartographer in the service of the Dutch in the East Indies 1817-1830 (Psilopogon).

If Major or Lieutenant colonel is unknown to me but from OD I would go for Major. As well no idea if born 1783 or around 1783.

"Henri Albert, Baron van Henrici". He died on 12 Sep 1838; I read his age here as 56 ("oud Zesenvijftig Jaren") -- which would mean born in the year preceding 12 Sep 1782.

In the "geboren" field of the death record, where the place of death and names of the parents are given in other records, a locality (I think) that I can't read is given, and this is followed by ", Luitenant-Kolonel, geattacheerd aan den staf der Indische Landmacht, verder niet bekend."
So he apparently passed away as a Lieutenant-Colonel, attached to the staff of the Indische Landmacht (Indian Land Forces).

Also, in Damar Flycatcher Ficedula henrici (E Hartert 1899) he is commemorated.

About 50 specimens are at Naturalis, from his collection.

Temminck described new from birds collected by him: Lesser Green Leafbird Chloropsis cyanopogon (1830); Malaysian Rail-babbler Eupetes macrocerus (1831); and Yellow-breasted Flowerpecker Prionochilus maculatus (1836).

He died in Amsterdam, on 12 September 1838 and was born in Vienna on 27 November 1783.

I have scribbles on him (outdated and not complete): Officer in Austrian regiments from 1800-1805 and from January 1817 captain in the Dutch army. He was appointed to the army in Indonesia from 1825. In charge of the topographical survey of the Chinese districts of W. Borneo, 1830-32; in the latter year returning to Java, and in 1833 appointed Military Commander, lieutenant colonel, of S. Borneo. He died soon after return in Europe.
Was on army service and stationed in Sumatra from 1825 onwards, and later in Borneo. Made collections from the west coast and in the Pedang highlands which sent to the museum NNM Leiden and Brussels and probably elsewhere.

For collecting localities see van Steenis-Kruseman M.J. 1950. Flora Malesiana. Malaysian Plant collectors and collections being a Cyclopaedia of Botanical exploration in Malaysia and a Guide to the concerned literature up to the year 1950. Reprint 1985.

Although no explicit etymological comment accompanied the original description of Dammeria henrici Hartert, 1899 - a year later, Hartert (1900: 15) shed some light on the name's derivation, when he stated "Mr. Heinrich Kühn sent nine specimens of this most interesting bird. The bird is named in commemoration of Mr. Kühn's Christian name, Heinrich = Henricus."

So in this instance I fear the dedicatee should be considered to be Heinrich Kühn.
