Puerto Rico Visit-RFI (1 Viewer)

I'm due to go to Puerto Rico later this week for 3 days.
I won't have a lot of time for birding, but hope to see some new ones.
I'll be based in San Juan, but will have a car for a day and so any information to maximize my chances would be welcome.

In Old San Juan, going from the cruise ships by the Sheraton to the west until reaching the entrance to the bay, then right along the cliff until reentering the town, and from there left until you get to El Morro is a nice walk and one that on a good day can give some birds including Caribbean specialties. For the one day with a car, I would likely go to El Yunque, you probably do not really have time for the other good locations.

There is an asphalt road up the mountain, with some popular side trails. Those I tried many years ago I remember as quite easy.

Hi John,
We visited El Yunque earlier this year and the birding was very productive with PR tanager, tody, oriole and Lizard Cuckoo all seen well. Also worth trying the flowering trees by the Police station in Las Croabas near Fajardo which was good for PR spindalis, Antillean Crested Hummingbird and Green-throated Carib.
