Puerto Rico's Birds in Photographs (1 Viewer)

I am thinking of going to Puerto Rico in the near future and I recently got 'Puerto Rico's Birds in Photographs: A Complete Guide and CD-ROM including the Virgin Islands' by Mark Oberle. This is a really excellent publication and I can't wait to get out there and use it. I already have Raffaele et al to use as a field guide, which will probably be the best to use for field identification, but the great thing about this new publication is that it allows you to do a lot of preparation before you go. The book mainly covers the commoner species that you are likely to see, with detailed information on the 16 endemics and 2 possible new endemic species. The photos are excellent and the text is good. However, the main strong point for many birders will be the CD ROM that goes with it. It has a lot more information on each bird species and an additional 1300 photos that I think covers all of the known species. It also has recordings of nearly all of them. It also includes some information on birding in the area and a little bit on some birding sites. There is also a really good links section and a long list of references. I have birded in the Neotropics for many years now and I have not come across anything as comprehensive as this. There is a website that has more information (http://www.puertoricobirds.com/).
This is well worth checking out if you are going there.

Tom,
Sounds like a great little resource for preplanning for your trip. I hope to make it to Puerto Rico in the next year or so and this looks like something that will be quite helpful.
Thanks,
