Purcell Mountains, B.C., Canada (1 Viewer)

I was looking at some old photos of a trip we took to the Purcell Mountains in the summer of 1998. While hiking one day, we were in the alpine scrub and this little brown bird kept following us along on the ground. The guide did not know the name of the bird but said it was around often during the summers. The photo is not great, as I had to scan it off of a print. Does anyone know what bird this is? Thanks in advance for any help.

This was a very small bird - I would say bigger than a Pine Siskin but smaller than an American Goldfinch.
Been reading about the Cowbird and apparently the vary in size. Also, they forage for seeds and invertebrates on open ground, so this is probably what I saw while we walked the trail and stirred up what they eat!! Thanks!!
