For example, I've just been to the Coto Donana and seen an amazing number of birds. I try to make counts for every species I see, I write down those numbers and then make notes about  identification, behaviour or even just the experience. That makes the whole experience much more enjoyable for me and means that I can refer back to the notes in future years, and I can compare counts etc. It also brings back good memories.
