Hmm, maybe. But it'll only be found if people are out there looking ;). Part of my day will be taken up with the Grand National (come on Calgary Bay, or Seabass).

Surely Mr Smyrna, you have BW Stilt on your Staffs list? Even I've got that, Croxall in 1991, which thinking about it is a frighteningly long time ago.

Black Winged stilt in Staffs tomorrow, the Rutland bird flew off NW tonight

Just read on Twitter that one of my mates had a spoonbill fly over his house and towards Brown Edge at about 7-8pm (it says 4h ago so don't know the exact time). Although he isn't a 'proper' birder (so hasn't reported it), I trust his ID skills greatly, and lets be honest, not much you can confuse a spoonbill for.

I'll text him in the morning to confirm though, and to find out which direction 'towards Brown Edge' actually is. But might be something nice waiting at Knype, Rudyard or Tittesworth in the morning for you patch workers.

Take it with a pinch of salt for now, but just thought I should put this news out in case it turns out to be accurate.

Adam

*Just got this as a text "Flew over high. Came from Brown Edge/Marshes hill towards Norton, but then looped round and went back. Wonder if it turned up at Knype. No mistaking the ID, it was so obvious it was my missus that pointed it out!!"

Seen 5 in Staffs thanks - why did you think it was a tick??

Appears to be quite a few bits dropping in today.

I had 7 Wheatear in one field at Gailey and even a male right outside my house in Cannock on an area which has just been dug for development. Also, Archie Archer had 5 Wheatear at Alvecote. Also, my first Swift of the year at Gailey today.

The smart male Redstart was showing nicely below the dam at Belvide, and others have been seen at Blithfield and Alvecote.

I think we all know what the bird of the day is!! Well done to Steve N, makes all the hours put in on the patch worthwhile!

Hi all,
Just got back from an amazing visit from Belvide. Had been in the field since 7am and was rewarded by amazing views of a juvenile Pallid Harrier in front of the Scott hide at 2.32pm. Myself, Bernie Smith and Nigel Talbot were left totally gob smacked. For more details of the sighting click here http://www.surfbirds.com/community-blogs/Belvide84/ Roger Gibb has got some record shots of the bird. They should be posted some time after 7pm.B :)

Nice one mucka!! Completes the set of Harriers for you at the res! I was lucky enough to be there for one of the Monty's but a Pallid puts it to shame! Well deserved for all those hours in the field slogging the 'Pond of Dreams'...:t:
