Rare and Scarce Birds in Staffordshire (19 Viewers)

Good to see you there Phil and quite a few others I haven't seen for a while...:t:

Cracking bird as always and showed fantastically well just perched in the open at about a range of 20 feet!

I checked my notes as I was also sure the Tittesworth bird was '92 but my notes say i saw it on 22.5.1994 - so almost 18 years to the day since the last twitchable bird in Staffs...very much enjoyed this 2nd helping...B :)

Good to see you to Ian :t: your right it was 94 my memory is not what it used to be now im getting old 3:)
Did Bernie make it down? When i rang him he knew nothing about it and was at his Mother In Laws :-O

What an absolute stonker! Cant believe I have seen Bluethroat in consecutive years in the West Mids. How many records have there been in Staffs?

I have found the answer to my question from Steve Nuttall's blog:

"This is the 3rd record for Staffordshire following males at Knotbury on May 17th 1988 and Tittesworth on May 22nd 1994"

Bluethroat

Hi All

What a bird ! My first, as I know it was for a handful of others nearby amongst the assembled birders, who must have numbered around 100 by early-mid afternoon. And for it to show down to a few metres too !

PS: Credit to whoever helped to get the news out so well... and thanks from us all.

Yeh he was there when I left...he was looking a bit glum tho for a man watching a Bluethroat who had also just escaped from a trip to the Mother-in-Laws...think it was cus Chelsea had 'nicked' the space his beloved Spurs had secured in the Champions League for next season...:-O

News for the 21st May

No sign of the Bluethroat early am at least

Why oh why couldn't that Cream-coloured Courser from Herefords have dropped in on Berry Hill?? Maybe if they had turned it into a Golf Course it might have done...;):-O

Short Eared Owl showing well late this afternoon at Doxey Marshes.

By contrast I was standing next to a guy who appeared to be in ecstasy talking to someone down his mobile. At first I thought he was on one of those premium rate lines ;) "oh god.... oh my god.... it's showing.... oh my god.....oh god the little beauty.....oh oh oh god...." etc etc etc :-O

Sorry, I'll keep it down next time :)

Doxey Bluethroat

Hi All

If you are already zonked-out on Red-spotted Bluethroat photos, look away now.

If not, here are three additional very-middling digiscoped record-shots from me ... and tightly cropped to show more feathering detail.

That's it, no more. Yippee (thought I'd say it for you).

Cheers

Andy R.

I don't think you could ever get enough of that cracker, and flying peach you beat me too it (re Nicks comments), heard something similar yesterday in Herefords, quite funny and frustrating at the same time.

With Russ's find at Berryhill (ok so not a mega rare in Staffs but getting that way) today, whats next for Staffs!!

ps. Andy and everyone else who sent photo's in of the Bluethroat for the Staffs bird news blog, we will try and incorporate photo's more often in future.

He seemed happy tho throwing bread to / at! the Swans.

News for the 22nd May

Quail - Berry Hill Fields early am
5 Black-necked Grebe - Branston Pits

Thanks, but I'll ignore Mr Smith's comments saying I'm 57 he's just jealous because he can't understand how at 47 (I do however feel 57) I still manage to look younger than himself at a mere 42ish???8-P

Imagine when your son is older and he's writing a little post on this thread as it reaches it's milestone 5 millionth post, berating his dad for that missed tick as there has never been another seen since and the species is on the verge of extinction, err sorry mate getting carried away hope you don't feel too bad about it B :)

sorry Chris . I get your real and imaginary age mixed up sometimes. I was only saying to Chris the other day that when I was watching the legendary BK at shugboro, I did consider driving home to get my then 7yr daughter and show it to her just in case she took up birdwatching as a profession!

Indeed you did, I'd forgotten about that, think you were worried that she would take it all to serious in the future though and overtake your own Staffs list, and you couldn't allow that :-O
