Rare and Scarce Birds in Staffordshire (1 Viewer)

Fantastic stuff Dean, cracking record! It's a really good garden record...:t: have to admit to spending a lot of the day (when not building a snowman or pulling kids on a sledge) watching the garden and although loads of good garden birds and very good numbers of the common species, nothing to rival that!

I've done my fair share of the snowman building and sledging today. I'm setting my camera up tomorrow to get a better shot !

Certainly some record that, its getting a major event to see one in North Staffs.

Spotted this in the Oak tree in my garden today. Not much chance to get the window open and set my tripod up however i was just glad to see it.

Nice one Dean :t:

Makes you wonder where they get at other times of the year! I had a pair at Gailey last year, then no sign for a couple of weeks despite searching. Then when I least expected it, had the male again along Gailey Lea Lane a while after showing brilliantly.

They've also been in my mom and dad's garden 4 times now over the years so I can't help thinking they must still be around the Shoal Hill area.

Always en exciting species to see and one you can't get enough of.

It's not too far from Shoal Hill though Steve. It makes you wonder what's around near Pottal Pool and the woods nearby.

Extra News for the 19th Jan

Ad Caspian Gull - Silverdale on the Void this pm
Waxwing - Brownhills near new cemetery
Jack Snipe - Madeley Sewage Works
Short-eared Owl & Merlin - Whitemore Haye

Woody made a welcome return to the Oak tree but very briefly. The Starlings who made a habit of swamping the feeders scared it off though. I did report the sighting to Birdguides but it was't announced. Perhaps I should switch to RBA.....
