Recommendation for mid-range binoculars for hiking (350-500EUR) (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I actually went for a little pricier option and picked up the Meopta AIR 8x42's for 600EUR. I think normally they are closer to 1k, but I found a local shop which had them on discount. So far am loving them!
Nice choice. Put up a little review once you had a chance to take them for a drive, with pictures of course.

Sounds like they’re going to to give you some good customer service even if they don’t give you a new pair. Let’s us know how it goes.

I received the 10x42 Vipers back from Vortex today (Wednesday). Instead of just replacing the frozen left eyecup, they replaced both occular lenses and eyecup assemblies, set the focus and alignment to factory specs, checked all other functions to factory specs, cleaned and purged with argon gas. Since mine are a mint condition MIJ model, I was hoping they would repair instead of replacing them since they now seem to be MIC or assembled in Phillipines. I sent them in without rainguard or objective covers, hoping when they were returned they would have some new ones attached - but no such luck, as returned bare just like I shipped them.

I was never disputing your experience with Vortex service, but was merely saying that wasn't typical

Just for S&G, I spent some time researching members experiences with Vortex warranty repair going back to 2015. Out of the 25 to 30 members who reported sending optics in for repair, all had to have the binos sent and received by Vortex prior to any replacement or repair, which to me would be typical. Otherwise, every scam artist would be calling them up and getting replacements sent out and sending nothing back.

Good to hear you got them and and in ship shape. I’d much rather have the MIJ repaired than new MIC.

I thought you were 🙁. On the one return they may have seen the ticket was scanned and figured it’s on way back. Another time , I bought a Nikon 8x42MHG ($975.00) from Orion telescope and binoculars , exact something occurred. There was a little metal imperfections in the inner lens cell, I didn’t like it. Called them up the day after I received them , and wanted a replacement. They sent out a new one with return Instructions. I was shocked , that’s why when this happened more recently with Vortex I wasn’t so surprised.

It seems you have a lot of time on your hands to research 25-30 BF members Vortex return experiences 🤣.

I totally agree with you, every scam artist out there would try to rip them off. Im pretty sure it has happened, I can’t be the only one that received replacements without the return. I could’ve kept the MHG and at least one vortex 😬.
