Recommendations for the island of Thassos/Greece (1 Viewer)

Hi there!

Soon I´ll travel to the island of Thassos in northern Greece and I am wondering if anyone here has recommendations as far as good birding spots go. For sure I´ll visit the estuary of the Nestos river on the main land, but as far as said island goes.... Anything really worth checking out besides the coast lines perhaps?

Thank you!

Fabian

Hi, Mount Ipsarion has Rock and Blue Rock Thrush around the summit areas with Woodlark, Rock Partridge and Cretzschmar's Bunting on the way up. Eleonora's Falcon is possible particularly around the southern part of the island.

Hi!

Thanks for your reply!

I already went to Thassos, unfortunately not to Mount Ipsarion, but I spotted Blue Rock Thrushes close to the shore of Aliki, as well as my first ever Lesser Grey Shrike. As far as buntings go, I ran into Cirl Bunting, Corn Bunting and Rock Bunting. As far as warblers go, I spotted or heard Eatern Orphean Warbler, Eastern Subalpine Warbler, of course Sardinian Warbler, and very surely Rüppell´s Warbler, as well as Eastern Olivaceous Warbler.

And a lot more other birds...

Will check out more sites in Epirus in the following days.

Thanks a lot!

Fabian
