red shouldered disappearance (1 Viewer)

I have red shoulders around every year here in western Virginia. This year was no different. I find great joy in hearing their territorial cries.

The other day, I noticed that I did not hear the hawk. It has been several days of silence after hearing them every day since late winter. What could have happened?

Do red shoulders suddenly depart an area after their young have fledged? I believe this area is far enough north for the hawks to be partially migratory.

I fear the worst. I love these birds.
