Redpoll (1 Viewer)

The last time I saw one of these was two years ago. (Caithness) Now have three or four on the niger seed feeders along with the siskins and goldfinches. My mum who lives 5 miles away has never seen them before now has the same experience. I believe that they're on the RSPB red list so hopefully this is a resurgence, I guess mostly due to more people using niger seed feeders. Beautiful little things.

I've spent a fair bit of time watching Redpolls at one of my local Wildlife Trust reserves in south Cumbria over the past couple of years. There are a couple of feeding stations and the birds certainly seem to like the niger seed feeders, though they also spend time on the mixed seed feeders. They are quite twitchy and often disappear at the slightest sign of disturbance when other finches stay put, though there are often up to half a dozen present at a time in the vicinity of the feeders. As you say, "Beautiful little things".
