Remarkable Aerodynamics and Capability - How Sparrowhawks catch garden birds ..... (1 Viewer)

I have found (to my cost!) that Sparrowhawks are incredibly fast with their feet. Leave your free hand too close and you suddenly have a vice-like grip with four incredibly sharp claws dug into your finger. I'm talking about when I have the privilege of ringing one. The pain is quite intense and I've often thought that the prey item (particularly if it's small) may actually die of shock? I now process these birds (and Kestrel and Merlin) by keeping their heads in the bag so they can't see me!
