I'm going to LA in mid October for a couple of days, though not an actual birding trip.
I'd welcome any info or suggestions on good birding sites, preferably without the use of a car.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Ballona wetlands near Marina Del Rey is pretty good, considering it is in the middle of LA. This is just SE of the actual marina. I had to circle around a couple times to figure out where to park. The Ballona Lagoon, on the other side of the channel is good for Egrets and other waders. It's a channel which runs parallel to the beach, just a block or so inland.

For going car-less, it really depends on where in LA you're going to be staying.

Thanks for the reply, Jim.
Funnily enough I'll be staying at Marina del Ray, so will check out your suggestion.
Was basically hoping for some gen on birds I don't see in Florida, so any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I visited Playa del Rey south of the marina on a flying visit before heading back to the UK from a business trip in early July last year.

Heerman's, Western and maybe some California Gulls along the beach with Elegent, Royal and Least Terns.

Black Oystercatcher, Marbled Godwits, Brandt's Cormorant and Clark's Grebe were birds of note with Anna's and Allen's HBs at my hotel in El Segundo.

Good Luck

Robin
