Popped down to the park from 1130 till 1530 and managed to see a quite respectable 43 species. Lovely and sunny and not as cold as it could have been, so all in all a worthwhile visit.
When I arrived the tide was in, so there wasn't much around in the bay - 4 species of gulls (Herring, Black Headed, Common and Great Black Backed), and Teal and Mallard. A Grey Heron was roosting along towards the reeds. Picked up a small flock of Yellowhammers as they landed in the long grass on the hill, only to be disturbed by a large dog running through the vegetation. Lots of people around, some with dogs, some with children and even another 2 birders.
Found a small group of Meadow Pipits in the long grass by Buzzard Wood, and a small group of Siskins bathing in below the bushes. Greenfinches and Chaffinches, as well as Blackbirds and a Wren were also in the wood. Heard a few Redwings but didn't manage great views at any point. A Stock Dove flew over and a skein of Greyalgs headed over the Tay. Spotted a flock of waders over the airport which turned out to be Bar Tailed Godwits. Back at the bay, there were Redshanks, and a few Dunlin along with 2 Mute Swans and a Grey Wagtail. There was also a flock of 11 Goldeneyes in the bay as well as some Mallards and a Cormorant.
Further wanders found a Goldcrest behind the car park, 2 Bullfinch males at the back of Buzzard Wood, and a Pied Wagtail. 2 Reed Buntings were in the bushes at the lower corner of the hill. Greenfinch, Song Thrush, Great Tit, Robin and Woodpigeon as well as Feral Pigeons and a few Starlings made up the rest of the sightings.
The Lochan was frozen but there were around 50 or so Carrion Crows and a couple of Jackdaws around the edges. On the smaller frozen pool, there was at least one Crow which appeared to be attempting to break the ice for a drink, and from my photos it appears it may have succeeded, although it did a lot of slipping as it tried. The Kestrel was very visible, perching in trees, and hunting a few times with some success. The dark Buzzard flew over, but was ignored by the Crows perched in the trees at Buzzard Wood.
The bird scarers at the airport put up a mixed flock of Curlews and Oystercatchers which flew over the park, although they appeared to be back on the airport grass by dusk. Four Skylarks flew over, and looked like they were contemplating landing for a few seconds but flew on eastwards.
