Stonefaction

Stuck in Dundee.....
Scotland
With the chance of Green Winged Teal (found by Keith Edwards) and an Iceland Gull (seen briefly by Ian Ford) as well as potential migrants, I headed down to a bitterly cold park this morning for around 0800. Bumped into Keith just after seeing my first House Martin of the year. Not too much else initially but a trip to the hide a bit later having bumped into Mikewander proved quite productive with decent views of Spotted Redshank down in front of the hide and eventually distant views of Green Winged Teal across the far side of the bay. Mike had to go, so I spent some more time waiting on more waders returning (15 Black tailed Godwits) before bumping into Mark Wilkinson who was down to try and see the Teal. An Osprey was spotted upsetting the gulls having caught a large flat fish, 3 Bar Tailed Godwits flew in but there was no sign of the Teal. 3 Sandwich Terns and 3 Common Sandpipers were also in the bay. I spent another hour looking but drew a blank then refound it a few minutes after giving up trying a little further upstream from where I'd been looking. Mark popped back down and managed to see the Green Winged Teal a little later. 54 species seen in total. A pretty good day.

Best bet is probably to sit at the picnic tables when there's a bit of water in the bay and wait for the gulls to get a bit upset and then just look for the one in the middle of the swarm that isn't a gull....
