Robins nest (1 Viewer)

Hi - I had a Robin build a nest in my window box. So I stopped watering the box. She laid 3 eggs and we saw them hatch. Tuesday I saw the mother feeding the babies and they were interacting and had their mouths open. Such a beautiful sight. I think the 3 babies are dead as of today. Why would this happen? I don't want to touch anything but it appears this way. How long do I wait to be sure and can I just remove the nest?

Hi Robin and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. It's hard to say what might have happened. If the nestlings are dead, it's possible one or both of the adults have themselves died (accident? predation?), which would then make it impossible for the other to continue.

You may find our Opus article on this species helpful: American Robin - BirdForum Opus

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Sorry to hear your news Robin :( I did want to welcome you aboard though.

Hopefully they will try again and it will have a better ending
