Hi everybody

Is this a Wood Mouse or perhaps some kind of vole? Seen in a forest in northern Switzerland on Saturday. Not a lot to go on I know. It was a little shy.

Thanks in advance
Tom

Bank vole. The main confusion species are wood mice Apodemus which have bulging eyes and much larger, almost bat-like ears.

Bank vole is the most commonly seen small mouse-like rodent in the forests and parks of central Europe. Also, there seems to be a population high in parts of Switzerland this year. Hopefully, next year, in turn, will be very good for owls.

With that colouring I was thinking maybe Bank Vole?

+1 for Bank Vole, no real confusion species on the Swiss list according to Wikipedia.

Thank you all very much. The rodent population seems to be very high here this year alright. On a couple of night trips to find owls earlier in the year the forest was full of them.

All the best
Tom
