Rosella chicks (1 Viewer)

I have rosellas (eastern) nesting in a nesting box this morning the male seemed to be calling a lot and there was no sign of the female, I checked the box and there were 3 chicks in it. Just want advise on what to do if she doesn’t return, what to feed the chicks (very young) etc. they nested there last year and disappeared abruptly, I waited a few days before checking and there were 3 dead chicks (more mature) in there

Hi, welcome to the forum on behalf of the staff and moderators. I think you will find us friendly and helpful group. I hate to say this, but I would leave the nest alone. You might spook the remaining parent if you interfere. If you click on Opus at the top of the page you can then search for all of the information the forum has on Rosellas (I was going to give you a link, but there seem to be a lot of different ones, I’m not sure which one you have.)

Hi BigD and a warm welcome from me too.

I'm rather inclined to agree with Lisa about leaving it alone; it's usually best to not interfere with nature unless the problem has been caused by humans.

We have some general guidelines here for the care of injured and baby birds.

I'm guessing this is one of the Crimson Rosella family, the most common, so this would be the link to our Opus article for them: Crimson Rosella - BirdForum Opus. If it's a different species, simply scroll to the top of the article and click on the underlined Genus name Platycercus and select one from the list there.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.

We had 5 rosella chicks in a deep fence post . 3 have gone and two remaining and no sign of the parents anymore . The two remaining are sitting on now a pile of maggots and they seem left behind .
Should I help them out ?
