Geoff - how many pairs of Common Tern do u reckon bred this year? When i popped in for the PGP i hadn't seen so many before.....

Laurie:t:
I think there were at least 3 pairs on an island on the north pit but there could have been more as you couldn't see the back of the island. A lot of the juveniles seen later could have come from elsewhere.

Just a little reminder that the West Midlands Autumn All-Day Birdwatch is next Saturday (6th September); hope Middleton Lakes can join in as it did in the Spring

Highlights this afternoon were a Pintail, Garganey and a juvenile Hobby. The only waders seen were 1 Ruff, 4 Snipe and 1 Green Sandpiper plus Lapwings although a Spotshank was reported later per TVB.
Regarding the West Mids All-day birdwatch on Sat. 6/9, I will likely be at the reserve sometime on the day but haven't spoken to any other birders re the race. Today I saw 53 species.

Is anyone doing the All Dayer tomorrow? If they are I look forward to seeing reports on this thread. I'll be around in the morning anyway.

Geoff - I've got an all day pass tomorrow so will see you there bright and early. I'll do the sparrows and blackbirds whilst you hunt out the good stuff as my identification is a bit suspect at times.

One of the Curlew Sandpiper has a yellow leg flag - if anyone can read the ring codes then that would be great! Initial research suggests Norwegian origin.
