Andy,
I would be certain they are 2 different birds, Dosthill NR has good habitat for a wintering Bittern there are also other good areas for Bittern in the Tame Valley. 3 Bitterns reported this winter in the Tame Valley, 2 at Ladywalk NR Warwickshire.

Dosthill NR

Bittern this morning at 11:20. It flushed from the river bank about 50yds in front of me when a low flying helicopter went directly overhead! It immediately plunged into the reed bed on the edge of the lake closest to the river.

Hi John

The Bittern I saw was at 11:20am. It was further north than Fishers Mill, in fact it was approx parallel with the earth movers. It flew from the river into the reeds in Dosthill lake close to the river. I think it's inconclusive as there was time for it to move further south into Fishers Mill pool. I spoke to John Fincham at about 12.30 as I was going towards Fishers Mill and he told me about his sighting. At the time I thought it was unlikely to be the same bird as it seemed to have come from southerly direction, but on reflection it is possible that the bird I saw had moved up the river (i.e. south) and then over to Fishers Mill pool. So I think it's inconclusive, but a definite possibility that there are 2 Bitterns.

Hope that helps

Steve

Hi Steve, I may have mis-understood, I thought you meant the Bittern was flushed from the River and went into reeds Dosthill NR closest to the river. But in your latest reply you state the Bittern flew into reeds closest to the river at Dosthill lake.
