RSPB Middleton Lakes (1 Viewer)

7/4/13 Dosthill NR 1st win male Long-tailed Duck and 12 Goldeneye, Chiffchaff singing, small pool south of Dosthill NR Staffs/Warks Boundary runs along northern edge of pool, female Bearded Tit.

8/4/13 Dosthill NR 13:00 Bearded Tit flew along the Western edge of Dosthill NR from the small pool south of here where it was first noticed at 12:37, also Dosthill NR male and female Long-tailed Duck, group of 8 then 3 Sand Martin through.
DBP West of the North pit was a male Wheatear and Andy R reports a Swallow through.

First butterflies we have seen this year (anywhere!) Brimstone, Comma & Peacock.
We haven`t been since work started here & thought that the site looked devastated in parts. Hoping that some good will come out of it all.
Lots of Chiff Chaff calling, Blackcaps, a couple of Herons & Buzzards & a Kessy, amongst others.
Bit windy & squally today
 
22/4/13 DBP Lesser Whitethroat singing by Fisher's mill bridge (the side that they EA have not destroyed the scrub).
Barn Owl hunting this morning along verge by track by canal (Richard Jones), Grasshopper Warbler reported reeling also.

26/4/13 DBP South fem/imm Marsh Harrier.
North pit 3 Dunlin, 4 Common Sand, 5 Ringed Plover, LRP, 2 Snipe, 2 House Martin, 10 Swift, Little Egret, 3 Commic Tern through North,Wheatear and 2 Yellow Wagtail. John Mallinson, JH

8/5/13 DBP Wader Passage North pit today.
8:34 4 Ringed Plover dropped onto the North pit.
8:40 Same 4 Ringed Plover flew out and also 2 Ringed Plover and a Sandpiper sp from behind an island. 7 Birds flew out north the Sandpiper species was smaller then the Ringed Plovers
8:51 Grey Plover through north
11:36 Ringed Plover NW
12:15 Dunlin and 3 Ringed Plover dropped in.
2 Ringed Plover were seen earlier flying around the Reserve and probably landed on the private area.
No breeding Ringed Plover on the Reserve this year.
Wader Count
Grey Plover, Dunlin, Sandpiper sp, 12 Ringed Plover.
Also resident 3 LRP, Oyst, 2 Common Tern, Raven.
50 Swift over Fazeley and a Hobby.

20/5/13 DBP North pit Since last Wednesday's flooding of the north pit, water levels have dropped and the river has been temporarily blocked off for continued work on the new scrapes, producing ideal conditions for waders
Partial Sum Plum Curlew Sandpiper noted at 11 a.m and flew out with 12 other small waders at 12:02

21/5/13 DBP North pit Common Sand only new passage bird from 10 a.m to 1:30 p.m Dunlin and 11 Ringed Plover seen, appears these birds remained feeding on the mud from yesterday.
DBP South Little Egret.

25/5/13 DBP North pit 3 Ringed Plover on an island North pit then flew north early afternoon, later 16:15 8 Ringed Plover dropped on an island newscrapes, pit south of the north pit Total 11 Ringed Plover

Pager reports 11 Sanderling at Middleton Lakes (doesnt state which part of the complex)

Report for Sanderling to high, I would believe a mix-up with Arctic Tern. I contacted Birdguides they said they got the information from another bird line source. They must have got the details from Tame Valley Birding but mis-read. John
