Blackcap

This is the Blackcap image, if anybody would like to confirm it is a Blackcap?

Many thanks

Hi DJ,
Yes this is a Blackcap a male, Willow Tit do occur on the reserve but are more common in the Ladywalk, Whitacre Heath and Kingsbury Water park area. Redstarts are very rare on the reserve (I have only ever seen one on the now private section in Spring but this is not in the present reserve boundaries) it appears you are confusing Willow Warbler/ Chiffchaff calls for Redstart which are similar.

7/5/12 A small sized group of waders, 10 circled and dropped onto the North pit comprising 8 Dunlin (some not having full black bellies yet) also 2 Ringed Plover, they landed and I never saw them again. Vegetation already up on the islands they may have rested on an island, these being the first group of small waders on their north migrartion noted this Spring.
Cuckoo calling, a Short-eared Owl over a Lesser Whitethroat singing from the canal. 2 m Shoveler noticed and a Mallard female with 5 young, one of the few breeders that survived the floods.

8/5/12 DBP South Osprey caught a fish circled and flew north west John Morgan. Middle section a Short-eared Owl, a Hobby low along the river, near the north pit a pair of Wheatear. Talking to 3 experienced birders separately with scopes saying there were no passage waders on the north pit, as I arrived a group of 7 small waders got up comprising 6 Dunlin and a Ringed Plover they landed on the west side of the main spit and were not seen again, proving visibility is a problem on the north pit, also 2 Shelduck and 2 m Shoveler. Earlier SLC male Wheatear on arable West of the north pit.

Spent some 15 mins scanning the North Pit at 9 this morning to no avail. Met another birder from Nuneaton who also drew a blank. Your comment is perhaps correct John. Did see a Cuckoo in a large Oak? between the farmhouse and the Silt Pool that then flew off south.

10/5/12 DBP Garden Warbler singing towards Fisher's mill bridge, Cuckoo calling along the canal hedgerow. North pit 4 Shoveler over (3m), Dunlin flying around and at 12:59 a Whimbrel unseen resting on an island got up and flew north. Arable West of the north pit 2 Egyptian Geese with Canada Geese.
Comments- Water level high only vegetated tops of islands showing making viewing difficult. If the water level drops, viewing will be better.
