Lyndon Nature Reserve After our Osprey experience we decided to drive around to the Lyndon part of the reserve where the Male and Female Ospreys are currently inhabiting the nest in Manton Bay. We had a pleasant walk to the shallow water hide, the wind had dropped a bit and the sun had come out, this also encouraged the butterflies to enjoy the sunshine and we had some super views of Small Copper, Orange Tip and Speckled Wood butterflies in the meadows along the walk. We also saw a Chimney Sweeper Moth in the meadows, its striking black colour meant it stood out in amongst the meadow flowers! Before we went in the shallow water hide we had a look at the Ospreys from the top of the path, this was the best place to view them as you are on higher ground than in the hide ~ we could see the Female in the nest much better from here than in the hide! From the hide we had super views of the male Osprey perched in the dead tree next to the nest site and at one point he flew off over the lagoons and came back with a fish, this was lovely to see and I managed a record photograph to record the moment!! Other birds seen here included, Oystercatcher, Shoveler, Gadwall, Egyptian Goose, Greylag Geese, Pied Wagtails. On the walk back to the car park we had super views of a Common Whitethroat and also 20+ Swifts swooping low over the meadows, our last bird of the day was a Yellowhammer enjoying the last of the sunshine and singing away on the telephone wire!! All in all this was a super day and it will certainly be a place that we will be returning too!!! (On a seperate note, on the drive to and from the reserve we had super views of Red Kites in the Kettering area)
