I think (don't know about Scotland per se) that May records are birds migrating north still, and yes, more unusual as they tend to go straight through or migrate more pelagically (out to sea) whereas August records onwards are birds moving south on a broader front/following the coast more ...


(So the chance of one in June normally pretty slim).
