(Sabota) Larks from Namibia, May/June 2024 (1 Viewer)

Larks - always a bundle of joy to figure them out!

When going through my photos I had labelled all these as Sabota Larks (mainly because of the quite big bill and the distinct supercilium. Now looking at my "Sabota Lark" folder I am no longer sure - really all the same bird? Does not help that there are three subspecies of Sabota in Namibia apparently. Not totally ruling out Monotonous, (grisescens) Rufous-Naped or Eastern Clapper Lark. But African Larks will always remain pretty much an enigma to me. The other species I did see (and am reasonably confident are Stark's, Red-Capped, Spike-Heeled, Grey's and Dune).

All taken between May 16th and June 8th.

Saw this type in Etosha a lot, and the one where I am most confident for Sabota.

Hesitant because of the diffuse streaking. No strong moustachial streaks. But still think Sabota is the best fit. Different area, Erongo Region (on the way from Swakopmund to Rock Painting Lodge).

Same region as the bird above. Different leg colour, and is that rufous in the wings?

Another one from this region.

A distant bird from Etosha.

And another one from Etosha that looks just a bit different from the typ seen in the very first photo.

Thanks in advance.
